A Hip-Hop Halloween: a Monster Mash. A thrilling show full of fun, yet chilling performances, danced by your favorite classic spooky characters, such as Frankenstein, the werewolf, ghosts, and more! Directed by Stuck Sanders, this show features dancers from the Tribe Dance Company and industry-leading hip-hop artists. Prior to joining Peninsula Ballet Theatre, Stuck Sanders and Alee Martinez cofounded Tribe and Poise’n Brigade, who join together today on stage to bring you this original production.

Stuck Sanders was introduced to dance at the age of 12, when his mother was looking for a creative outlet for him. After one hip-hop class, he was hooked and he headed for a career in the world of art and dance. In just a few years, he was performing in halftime shows for the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and earning a reputation as a top freestyler, where he was encouraged to create new moves and develop a personal style. Soon he was known for his style of Turf Dancing, incorporating strong storytelling. He burnished his reputation by participating in numerous dance battles, and at 19, he headed to Los Angeles for more vigorous training as a part of the competitive dance industry. While on his dance journey, his path crossed with Alee Martinez. In December of 2015, they formed The Tribe Dance Company, where they could continue to foster the art form and pass on their many talents to new hip-hop dancers.

Tchaikovsky’s ballet masterpiece, The Nutcracker, gets a fresh hip-hop remix as Peninsula Ballet Theatre brings the holiday favorite into the distant future. In the intimate setting of PBT Studio 1, this is the ideal way to introduce children 3-6 to the wonders of live theater. Meet the dancers after every performance!
Stuck Sanders’ Hip Hop Nutcracker
Clara receives a prized wooden nutcracker during a holiday party at her Victorian home. Once she falls asleep, her dream takes her into a world with wizards, toy soldiers, mice, and a sugar plum fairy. She finds herself in an unfamiliar land, dancing with characters who don’t look or dance the way they do back home! A cast of all-star hip-hop artists join The Tribe and Poise’n Brigade to present the classic Nutcracker score and story with a contemporary flavor. Stuck Sanders and Alee Martinez incorporate their dance and hip-hop backgrounds into the performance, fusing love, holiday spirit, community, and even a little magic.
